Google Pixel 8 Series Poised to Rival Samsung DeX with Desktop Mode Support

The Pixel 8 lineup from Google is one of the most anticipated smartphone releases of the year, and with good reason. The Tensor G3 chipset, camera upgrades, and software enhancements have already got Pixel fans excited. And now, there’s even more reason to be excited.

According to a recent leak, the Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro will support DisplayPort Alternate mode, which means they can be used as mini PCs when connected to an external display, keyboard, and mouse. This feature is similar to Samsung’s DeX mode and Motorola’s Ready For feature. With this mode turned on, your smartphone will turn into a mini PC, and you can use it as a perfect work companion. The Pixel 8 will also be able to connect to external monitors using the USB-C port of the smartphone and use it as a secondary display.

This will be a really handy feature since smartphones do not have space to accommodate a dedicated HDMI display port. Hence, the USB-C charging port doubling down on its functionality is a boon many will enjoy.

We don’t know how Google will support the functionality with its hardware, given that it is a resource-intensive feature. However, we expect to receive concrete details soon.

Stay tuned for more information on the upcoming Pixel 8 lineup.
